Mechanical coupling is a restrained type pipe coupling with wedge, it works by tightening the wedge to securely hold the pipe in place, thereby preventing the pipe from moving or coming loose, which effectively prevents leaks caused by pipe movement. It is suitable for projects where thermal expansion and contraction, ground subsidence, and other similar factors may cause pipe movement.

How Mechanical Coupling Work?
Compare to the non restrained flexible pipe coupling , the mechanical coupling have a wedge (as above Fig No.4) design.This wedge will be tighten by the wedge bolt(Fig No.5 as above),after the wedge were tighten, they will grip the pipe to avoid the pipe moving.
Judberd have 2 types mechanical coupling, one is wide range type which can be used to connect many different pipes which pipe OD is in our designed range. another one is dedicated type which can only connect one pipe OD. They have different middle sleeve (Fig No.3 as above ) and gasket(Fig No.7 as above) design.
To ensure good sealing performance , the wedge (Fig No.4 as above) Number can be changed according to the pipe size and working pressure requirement. For bigger size pipe and bigger working pressure, you need more quantity wedge to offer big enough grip power.

Please note because mechanical coupling can be used for a lot of pipes, can be applied to a lot of working pressure, so we design according to actual situation and customer’s requirements, there is no fixed dimension. Wedge number can also be changed accordingly.the following dimensions are for the use of HDPE pipe and PN16 working pressure, for reference only.
