Wafer type butterfly valve Manufacturer
Wafer butterfly valve is a type of valve that is commonly used to control the flow of water, oil, gas, and other fluids in pipeline systems. It is compact, lightweight, and is often used in medium and small diameter pipes. Butterfly valves are easier to install and operate than traditional ball or gate valves.Wafer butterfly valve works by turning a disc, called a butterfly disc, inside the valve body. When the valve is operated, the butterfly disc turns around a central axis to control the flow of fluid through the pipe. The butterfly disc turns so that it is parallel to the axis of the pipe, allowing fluid to flow freely through the valve. The butterfly disc turns so that it is perpendicular to the axis of the pipe, stopping the flow of fluid completely.

Judberd wafer butterfly valve feature

Two Circlip and two washer are designed on the stem, one Circlip is stuck on the stem and one Circlip is stuck on the groove of the valve body to prevent the stem from accidentally pulling out

Hexagonal shaft actuation
Precision hexagonal stem and valve disc connection, actuate the valve disc rotation, no screws and pins, eliminate stem leakage, more convenient maintenance and replacement

Inverted v-shape sealing design ensures bi-directional sealing and eliminates leakage from the stem area to the outside.

The top mounting flange of the valve meets ISO5211 standard for easy installation of pneumatic and electric actuation, and the square shaft stem makes the transmission more efficient.
In addition to the above design features, judberd wafer butterfly valves are with brass shaft bushing,Sturdy and wear-resistant,Valve disc with full shaft design, wear-resistant, and we can provide wafer butterfly valves in various materials such as ductile iron, stainless steel, etc. We can also design high temperature resistant viton rubber seals and corrosion resistant fully encapsulated rubber valve disc designs according to the characteristics of the fluid.
For EPDM sealing gasket, we have two different hardness. One is called hard EPDM sealing gasket which is have high hardness EPDM sealing gasket, another is called soft EPDM sealing gasket which is have low hardness EPDM sealing gasket. There specification are as below
Hard (high hardness)EPDM rubber sealing
The hard EPDM rubber seal is more expensive than soft EPDM rubber sealing if the size is bigger than DN 350, but if the size ≤DN350,EPDM hard rubber sealing type butterfly valve have very competitive price than soft EPDM rubber sealing type. The EPDM hard rubber sealing can be used for water or gas and can only be replaced by a machine and can be operated by means of a worm gear, an electric actuator or a pneumatic actuator.
Soft(low hardness) EPDM rubber sealing
if the wafer butterfly valve size is ≥DN400,soft EPDM rubber sealing is much more competitive in price, but it only can be used for water, can’t be used for gas, because gas often evacuates, soft EPDM rubber can’t evacuate, will deformation, can be replaced manually, easy maintenance. Operation can be worm gear, electric actuator, can’t be used with pneumatic actuator, because the pneumatic actuator have very high on-off speed, soft EPDM rubber sealing easy to shift

Wafer type butterfly valve installation

Wafer butterfly valve itself has no connection end, it needs to be clamped between two flanges and tight the two flanges by bolts, thus pressing the wafer butterfly valve for sealing.
The installation steps of the wafer type butterfly valve are as follows
STEP 1, put the butterfly valve into the middle of the two flanges to be installed

STEP 2, according to the number of holes of the wafer butterfly valve, insert the corresponding number of bolts, tight the bolts in the diagonal order, and do not tighten too much.

STEP 3, the flange will be pre-installed to the top of the pipe, such as welding flange using spot welding, the threaded flange needs to be pre-tightened

STEP 4, remove the butterfly valve

STEP 5, the flange will be fixed on the pipe in accordance with the pre-installed position

STEP 6, the wafer butterfly valve will be installed to the middle of the two flanges, wafer butterfly valve and the two flanges should have a certain gap

STEP 7, according to the diagonal position tighten all the bolts, but not too tight

STEP 8, try to open and close the valve to see if the valve can work well, and make the valve disc in a small angle open position

STEP 9, according to the diagonal position tighten all the bolts

STEP 10, do the valve opening and closing experiment again, make sure the wafer butterfly valve can work well, and the valve disc can move smoothly, ensure the disc does not touch the pipe

Wafer butterfly valve application and advantage
Wafer butterfly valve is a common valve used in piping systems, especially in applications where you don’t need to be too picky about controlling the flow of fluids. They’re small, lightweight, and are primarily used to control or stop the flow of fluids. You’ll find them in industries like water treatment, HVAC, oil and gas, and chemicals.
Wafer butterfly valve has below advantages to be your first choice:
Small and Compact: The design of a wafer butterfly valve is smaller than other types of valves (like gate valves or ball valves), making it perfect for installations in tight spaces.
Lightweight: Wafer valves are lighter than their flanged counterparts, making them easier to handle, transport, and install, which saves you money on shipping and installation.
Cost-effective: Wafer butterfly valves are generally cheaper than flanged valves or ball valves, especially for applications with medium to low pressure and flow, making them more cost-effective.
Easy to Install: Wafer butterfly valves only need the valve to be sandwiched between two flanges, so you don’t need extra flanges, which makes them faster and easier to install.
Advantages of a Wafer Butterfly Valve (compared to other valves):
Compared to a Lug Butterfly Valve: Lug butterfly valves have threaded bolt holes that allow you to install them between two pipe ends without needing flanges on both sides, which is nice for maintenance. However, wafer butterfly valves are cheaper and take up less space, especially in systems where both ends of the pipe are flanged.
Compared to a Flanged Butterfly Valve: Flanged butterfly valves are typically used in high-pressure and high-temperature environments, but they’re more expensive and take up more space. Wafer butterfly valves are cheaper and take up less space, making them better for applications with moderate pressure and temperature.
Compared to a Gate Valve: Gate valves are typically used in high-pressure applications and work well when you need them to be all the way open or all the way closed, but they’re not good for controlling the flow. Wafer butterfly valves work better when you need to control the flow, especially in medium to low-pressure situations.
Compared to a Knife Gate Valve: Knife gate valves are designed to handle thicker, viscous, or slurry-type fluids and are often used in heavy-duty applications with a lot of solid content. Wafer butterfly valves are better for clean, flowing fluids and have a smaller design for general use. Knife gate valves are bulkier and used in more specialized applications.
Compared to a Ball Valve: Ball valves seal really well and are good for high-pressure situations, but they’re generally more expensive and larger, and they don’t control the flow well. Wafer butterfly valves, because of their simple design, control the flow well and are cheaper when you don’t need to be super precise.
In short, wafer butterfly valves are great for medium to low-pressure applications where space, cost, and ease of installation are important. Other valves, like gate valves, ball valves, and knife gate valves, work better in specific, high-pressure, or specialized environments but are more expensive and bigger.
